Actions: Cimetidine is an antagonist of histamine at gastric H2 receptor sites. It inhibits both basal gastric secretion and gastric acid secretion induced by histamine, pentagastrin and other secretagogues. Accordingly, it inhibits gastric acid secretion and reduces pepsin output; it has also been shown to inhibit other actions of histamine mediated by H2 receptors. It is used in conditions where inhibition of gastric acid secretion may be beneficial.

Indications: Cimetidine Tablets are used to treat duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer, reflux esophagitis, post-operative peptic ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other conditions where reduction of gastric secretion and acid output is desirable. These include treatment of lesions induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and prevention of their recurrence. It can be used for the relief of hyperacidity, dyspepsia, indigestion or hearburn.

Dosage: Usual adults dosage is one tablet twice daily in the morning and before retiring or directed by physician, to be taken for at least four weeks. Patients who have responded to short term therapy particularly those with a history of recurrent ulcer, may benefit from maintenance therapy of one tablet once daily at bedtime. The stomach is empty while sleeping, and acid concentration is higher than day time, once daily dosage is taken at bedtime to offer maximum protection to the stomach and duodenal wall.

Contraindications: It is contraindicated in patients known to have hypersensitivity to Cimetidine.

Caution: Keep this and all indication out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place.
