ACTION

The curative effect of ROTER stomach tablets derives mainly from the Bismuth Subnitrate which is so that it reached the stomach in a very finely divided form. This specially processed Bismuth injurious substances and adheres firmly to the gastric and duodenal mucous membranes. The increases the regenerating power of the mucous membranes and gives the damaged tissues a chance to heal.

ROTER tablets reduce excessive acidity of the gastric juices, regulate defecation and restore normal digestion. Appetite returns, and as a result of this the body regains its normal weight and the zest for life is restored.

COMPOSITION

ROTER stomach tablets contains: Bismuth Subnitrate 300mg, Magnesium Carbonate 400mg, Sodium Bicarbonate 200mg, Rhamni Frangulae Cortex 25mg.

DIRECTION OF USE

ROTER stomach tablets are easiest to take after they have disintegrated in a little luke-warm water. If preferred, they can also be broken up into fragments and swallowed with water.

Dosage:   Unless the doctor in attendance decides different, the recommended dosage is three times a day 2 tablets, to be taken some short period of time after a meal.

In case of ulcus ventriculi and duodeni: do not exceed a period of 4 to 6 weeks.

In case of gastritis, duodenitis and hyperacidity: do not exceed a period of 7 to 10 days.

Precautions:    It has been found from experience that - in case of a treatment with ROTER stomach tablets - no special dieting is necessary. At more or less severe stomach disorders to be at first very moderate in the consumption of alcoholic liquors, fried food, various types of cabbage, coffee, smoking (especially on an empty stomach) and to avoid rich and copious meals.

Packing:   ROTER tablets are obtainable in packets of 20 tablets and 100 tablets in strips.

SIDE EFFECTS

During a course of ROTER stomach tablets, it is normal for the faeces to have a dark colour. It could also cause constipation. In cases of severe chronic gastric disorders patients are advised to consult their doctor. Taken in high dosages over a long period of time it could cause encephalopathy, osteoarthopathy, osteopathy and constipation.

SYMPTOMS AT AND TREATMENT OF AN OVERDOSE

Phenomenon of a chronic bismuth intoxication

After a lengthy usage of high doses of bismuth subnitrate (5 to 20g a day) encephalopathy has occurred. Symptoms of this are; mental disorder, tremors, serious disturbance of motion, disturbance of co-ordination, walking difficulties, feeling of feebleness, myoclonies, parenthesise, disturbance of concentration, ataxia, symptoms of psychoses, hallucinations and convulsions.

When medication is discontinued the previous mentioned symptoms will disappear. Toxic phenomena by bismuth have been noticed at a concentration in the blood exceeding a level of 100 micrograms bismuth per litre. Besides a bismuth intoxication the usage of high dosage a nitrate intoxication could occur with methemoglonemy.

WARNING

a.     Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

b.     Not to be used by children under the age of 10 years.

c.     Not to be used in case of a strict salt-free diet. In case the doctor prescribes, for any clinical picture, a limited use of salt, it is wise to consult the doctor.

d.     ROTER stomach tablets could mask malignancy of the stomach.
